ONDC(Open Network for Digital Commerce) Network

During Covid 2019, government authorities found that digital commerce is really important. Hence the need to make the online commerce affordable and available to all came into picture. This is not a regulatory body by government. It is a facilitator to allow online buying and selling of products and is completely decentralised. There are various incentives for buyers and sellers.Currently 3 incentives are active-

Program 1: Discount for Buyers for transactions
Program 2: Subsidised Delivery Cost for Buyers
Program 3: Incentive for Buyer Apps for demand generation
Program 4: Incentive for Sellers for demand generation and fulfillment

Program 5: Incentive for Seller Apps for seller onboarding

As one can see two incentives have been removed, for further info. on these please visit https://ondc.org

Four main components on this network are-

1.Buyer App responsible for creating demand and onboarding of customers.

2. Seller App responsible for fulfilling demand being generated and aggregate sellers.

3. Technology service provider.

4. Gateway in between all these.

Tomatoes will be sold through the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) in New Delhi by National Cooperative Consumers' Federation (NCCF) as posted by PIB Delhi. NCCF has a seller app on ONDC network. Before this government was selling tomatoes in Ghaziabad and Delhi at subsidised rate of Rs 80 per kg.

The Department of Consumer Affairs has directed NCCF and NAFED to sell tomatoes at retail price of Rs.70/- per kg rate from 20th July, 2023 in view of the declining trend in tomato prices. The tomatoes procured by NCCF and NAFED had been retailed, initially, at Rs.90/- per kg and then reduced to Rs.80/- per kg from 16th July, 2023. The reduction to Rs.70/- kg will further benefit the consumers.

It may be recalled that on the direction of Department of Consumer Affairs, NCCF and NAFED had commenced the procurement of tomato from mandis in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharashtra for simultaneous disposal in major consumption centres where retails prices have recorded maximum increase in last one month. The retail sale of tomatoes in Delhi-NCR had started from 14th July, 2023. Till 18th July, 2023 a total of 391 MT of tomato had been procured by the two agencies which are being continuously disposed of to the retail consumers in major consumption centres of Delhi-NCR, Rajasthan, UP and Bihar.
